Finncon 2013

Two things fans Down Under found surprising at my GUFF presentations: the size of the Croatian national con (approximately 1000 members) and then the fact that Finncon did not charge for membership. Me, I think SF fandom should consider Finncon for the title of Worldcon – the 15 0oo participants warrant it. Was there ever a Worldcon that size? Screen Shot 2013-07-08 at 11.32.36 AMI’ve been to a Worldcon, but unfortunately have never attended a Finncon. I had planned to rectify that this summer, but as with all best laid plans, this one went into the wind as well.

You can find out all about the largest European con here, you can see what is on for this year on their website and for those of us not attending, I am sure Cheryl Morgan will write it up so we can catch a glimpse of the con.

I am sooo curios about the Hugo nominees panel, not to mention the fact that I love the academic paper tradition they have prior to the con called Finfar. I know some Australian fans who would love this. ;D
