Being a freak in real life myself and having a very annoying talent in *not* getting paid for the work I do, this speech really shook me up.
Not only because recently – again! – I did some work that ended up being unpaid (living in Croatia sucks!) but also because the nature of my GUFF trip touches on what Palmer is talking about.
A GUFF tour involves going to conventions and representing European fandom, yes, but it also means asking people to open their homes for me, invite me in and show me around their towns, cities, clubs and fandom families.
